Kitty Fun continues  Comments (3)

This is probably my favorite kitty out of my recent digitizing.   Eliana LOVES her new kitty sweatshirt and I think the photo where she looks down at the kitty and the kitty seems to look up at her is precious.  See those bangs on Eliana?  Well…. she didn’t have those last week!  Her brother decided that she would look better with bangs and so he helped “beautify” her – much to his mother’s shock.   She also just acquired glasses so she has an all new look to her – and she is oh so precious to us.   She is rather tall for just turning 4 in a couple of weeks and so she asked me yesterday “Grandma, am I going to be some kind of giant when I grow up?”  Little sweet thing – I don’t think so!! :)

The new design should be in the shop shortly.

I know that some of you are waiting for the boy applique alphabet.  I am going to try and get it done by November but I am not sure I can with all that’s going on right now.  I have more baby things to make for the new grandchild and our daughter needs more help now and right after her scheduled C-section.  We’ll see what happens.  You all know I love digitizing and it’s my “relaxation”.

Take care and God bless and thanks for stopping and reading my blog.

Eliana’s birthday is coming soon  Comments (0)

Eliana’s birthday is just around the corner and she has asked grandma for a kitty dress with jacket.  So, here it is.  I have had a lot of fun designing and digitizing this outfit and now hope it will fit and she will like it.  I guess I’ll find out! :)   The pattern is a Portabellopixie pattern called “Claire”.  I used the jumper pattern, it comes in dress form, too.  Great photo instructions, easy to follow.  The designs are mine and are being sold in the store right now.  The fabric is from Hancock’s.

I have one more kitty applique design that I digitized for Eliana.  I will post it tomorrow, hopefully.

Home Schooling  Comments (1)

I recently started home schooling one of our granddaughters and it has been a wonderful experience.  We are using the public school curriculum K12 and while some would not consider that home schooling, I still do.  There are so many opportunities for conversation and input of our own personal views.  I would not want to miss it for anything.  Saarah and I are having some very special times together and I treasure every minute of it.  We are doing it for one year.  Her Mom and Dad are wanting to move within the next year and did not want to submit her to the trauma of changing schools.  So for one year I have this very special time with her and I will treasure every minute of it.

And,  of course, I will have to make some designs to show my enthusiasm for home teaching.  You knew that, didn’t you?

I am letting you have a little peak into what’s coming up.  Are there any other home schoolers out there?  I hope so because I am having a lot of fun making these designs.

Well, I just wanted to share what’s taking up half of my day these days.  So my digitizing might slow down some, but it’s well worth it to me.  Keep checking my site – you never know.  I don’t sleep so well at night anymore and there are nights when I digitize just to “calm down” and be able to go back to sleep.

Don’t forget to join my yahoo group.  The free designs there will be taken down after a while and replaced with new ones.  Some of those designs will be put up for sale later on.

Talk to you later.

Wallhanging for Siddiq’s birthday  Comments (0)

I just finished this wallhanging and little door pillow for our oldest grandson, Siddiq.  He no longer wishes to be called “Siddiq” but rather Sid and has made it very clear that should I ever embroider his name on anything again that it needs to be Sid.  Grandma is trying.  It’s hard to break the habit of 9 yrs of calling him Siddiq! :)   He is really “into” fishing and various animals.  He has about 30 books from the library on various nature things.  He caught a small snapping turtle and if you look closely, you will see it on the bottom of the wallhanging.  I should have taken a little darker thread, but alas…  it’ll have to do.  I also put the Bunny too close to the border, so his little tail got partly covered by binding!  I am sure if you look closely you’ll find other things that could have been done better.  But I can honestly say it was a labor of love.

The applique letters will be going up for sale fairly soon as well as some boy add ons.  Keep watching! :)

Enjoy your hobby.  I certainly do.

Having fun with baby projects  Comments (0)

I just wanted to share with you how much fun I have been having making baby gifts.  I am using Embroidery blanks for these from www.allaboutblanks.com.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her things.  They are all very much boutique style quality.  One of my granddaughters (the youngest) was holding the velour blanket I made and kept saying “It’s sooo soft, Grandma”.  She had a hard time letting go of it.  The bear is called “Pancake”.  It is flat – which was a little bit of a surprise for me – but very, very soft.  The back of the bear is velcroed.  Inside of the bear is a little snuggle blanket which I, of course, HAD to decorate.    While I have not washed the bear (I think he should wash easily, being that he is “flat”), I have washed the blanket and it did very well.  I washed it to make sure that the appliques I have been working on would do well in the wash.

Have you checked out my new vintage roses set?  It is so versatile.  I digitized it for velour/plush fabrics, but it can go on guest towels, pillowcases, towel bands, etc.  These stitch out beautifully and would make such great gifts – even for adults.   The photos below show the use of the Vintage Rose set but also the special occasion frame used on the pillow.  The pillow form from www.allaboutblanks.com is fabulous.  It’s linen and looks so refined.  I will be making one in blue for a boy soon.  I think it might look nice all tone on tone, too.  Don’t you?

I am now working on boy things – a boy alphabet (applique and filled) and then baby boy designs since we have a new grandbaby boy coming in October.

Enjoy the rest of the summer – what’s left of it – and talk to you soon again.

Photos of the little model  Comments (0)

Just wanted to share a couple of photos of our 6 yr old little model.  Glad to say that it fits well, though a little bit snug.  But she loves it and that’s what counts!

Have a happy day.

By the way, look for some Christmas designs going up soon.  It’s definitely not too early to start making gifts for Christmas.  Also, some new and exciting baby things are in the making.

Talk to you soon.

Saarah’s Birthday is Coming Up Soon  Comments (0)

Our little Saarah is turning SIX August 1st.  It’s hard to believe.  How time flies.  Of course, that means that I had to make an outfit!! :)   I made her a dress from the Sue and Blue magazine (a Dutch magazine).  While I do like the way it turned out, I do not recommend this pattern for any beginning sewers.  The instructions are lousy.  It doesn’t even really help with cutting instructions.  Since it’s been really cold here in Ohio for July (down to the 50s at night and only in the 70s during the day), I thought it needed a little cover up.  I made this little jacket from the BizzKids Summer magazine.  I am not too keen on how the collar is “ruffled” at the neck, but still think it looks cute.  Well, I know our little Princess (that’s what “Saarah” means) will look great in it.  I digitized and stitched the little bear on it to somehow match the roses on the dress.  Then I found out that she is having a bear birthday party.  That’s what you call Grandma intuition! :)

Have you seen all my new designs?  I have been very busy!!  Hope that some of them will come in handy for your summer, fall, and soon Christmas sewing.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

How to Stitch an Applique Letter  Comments (3)

Just in case you are not quite sure whether you would be able to do applique lettering, I want to ensure you that it is very easy.  Here is a small tutorial on the “How to of Applique Lettering”.  Soon, you will find a free alternate “A” posted for my Country Garden Alphabet to allow you to practice what I am going to show you in this tutorial.  I think once you do this, you will be “hooked”.  There are so many advantages to doing applique lettering or applique in general.  What are some of those advantages? (keep reading….)
