The side and small pocket are attached during the embroidery process. The background of the left side is lightly quilted. The ricrac is embroidered. There is a pocket on the right size to hold a napkin, a cookie, or a spoon. This mini placemat is the size of half a regular placemat with plenty of room even for a small plate, cookies, and a cup of coffee. There are 2 stitch files in your download. One with the design on the left side and another without the design. That way you can fussy cut fabric or insert a design of your own choosing on the left side. This might even make a good placemat for Santa’s cookies and milk on Christmas Eve.
