Tips for improving your stitch-outs of lettering

in Blog on January 19, 2023

Many of our designs come with some kind of lettering or wording.  From time to time customers write and say they are disappointed with the stitchout of the lettering part of a design.

First, let me reassure you that all of our lettering is hand digitized with careful attention to good stitch-out quality. Unfortunately, that does not always translate into good stitch-out at your particular machine.  There are some embroidery machines that just don’t do small lettering very well.  I wish I had control over that when I digitize but, alas, I don’t.

But, there are some things that you can do to improve the stitch-out of lettering.  Here are some tips.

  1.  Use the same color bobbin thread you use on the top.      This will eliminate the bobbin thread (usually white) showing on top of the lettering.
  2.  Use a new needle.   It can make a big difference in your stitch out quality.
  3.  Stabilize well.      If you are doing some of our in the hoop designs that use fusible fleece, you do not need to worry about that.
  4.  Slow down your machine when stitching lettering.
  5.  Make sure you oiled your machine, following manufacturer’s instructions.
  6.  Use quality thread.  Old and low quality thread will cause frequent breaks.
  7.  Check your bobbin case and clean it if necessary.    If some thread had gotten caught in the bobbin case, it will affect tension.

I am sure there are other tips.  But I hope this is helpful.
