Doves have been used a symbol of peace and love for millennia. A dove was released by Noah after the flood, and came back carrying an olive leaf (Genesis 8:11). At the baptism of Jesus, a dove was also used to symbolize the presence of the Holy Spirit. This dove, with an olive branch, is accompanied by the words “Peace and Joy” the message the angels shared with the shepherds announcing the birth of Jesus Christ.
